LAWTON - With fun, laughter and good tidings, holiday shoppers at Lawton’s Central Mall enjoyed Christmas carols and line dancing demonstrations while they shopped.

Having a venue that provided all the decorations and everything already prepared, collaborating Central Mall and Ware on C seemed perfect, said Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce Communication Manager Brandi Sims. To promote businesses in the Lawton’s Ware District, the Chamber hosts block parties as weather permits. With Oklahoma weather being so unpredictable, Central Mall was the chosen venue for December’s Ware on C Block Party festivities. Beginning with a joyful acapella performance that resounded throughout the mall, members of the Southwest Pride Barbershop Chorus drew quite a crowd and several in the audience joined in on the Christmas carols. Audience members then enjoyed a demonstration from Lawton’s own L-Town Royalty line dancing troupe. L-Town head instructor Virginia Crowley-Berry invited the audience to join in on the fun.

Along with the chorus singing everyone’s favorite Christmas carols and dancing, the Chamber encourages people to shop around and check out some of the store giveaways, discounts and promotions. By staying open later and having games, food and entertainment booths set up on C Avenue, the Ware on C Block Party events helps business owners in the Ware District extend their clientele. Past events have included health screenings and massage therapy mini sessions by Platt College students, a classic car collection, a pair of Clydesdale horses and even a cornhole tournament. Typically, the 300 and 400 blocks of C Avenue are blocked off for the family-friendly events.
