LAWTON – Traffic at a busy Lawton intersection is moving safely and smoothly after the installation of new signals.
The City Council awarded a $225,969 contract to Traffic & Lighting Systems LLC last November to install the lights that control the movement of traffic through the intersection of Cache Road and Flower Mound Road.
The notice to proceed was issued effective Jan. 20. Although the work was to be completed within 90 calendar days afterward, 158 days elapsed before the job was finished. However, 72 days were caused by material delivery delays “that were out of the contractor’s control due to the traffic signal pole and mast arm manufacturer,” Public Works Director Larry Wolcott said. Thus, Traffic & Lighting Systems completed the project four days under the contract time, he noted.
No deficiencies were found when the final inspection was
held June 25, Wolcott informed the City Council recently.
That intersection was tra- versed by more than 9,700 vehicles per day, on average, during a traffic count conducted three years ago, Wolcott reported. That number included:
• Flower Mound Road south- bound: 3,981 vehicles per day
• Flower Mound Road north- bound: 3,440 vehicles per day
• Cache Road westbound: 2,147 vehicles per day
• Cache Road eastbound: 148 vehicles per day
