OKLAHOMA CITY – OG&E recently finished construction of new five-megawatt solar energy farms in southeast Oklahoma, which are operating at full capacity.

Earlier this year the company announced that it would build two solar farms – one in Davis and one in Durant – to help meet the renewable energy needs of the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations, the company said in a press release.

Combined the tribes have purchased about 50% of each energy farm’s solar output through OG&E’s solar tariff, according to the news release. The remaining capacity was made available to all customers.

Now that the new energy farms are up and running, approximately 4,600 customers have subscribed to OG&E Solar Power.

Each solar farm is located on about 35 acres of land and contains 15,344 solar panels, according to the news release. The farms each produce five megawatts of solar energy, enough to power 1,785 homes.

The new farms, along with solar farms in Mustang and Covington, bring OG&E’s total solar energy acreage to more than 168 acres.
