Eastern Oklahoma saw some rain recently due to Tropical Storm Beta, but western Oklahoma stayed dry.

Total rainfall averaged 0.69 of an inch across the state, and the East Central district reported the highest total at 2.01 inches.

Drought conditions were rated 27% abnormally dry to severe drought, up slightly from the previous week, according to the Sept. 22 Drought Monitor Report. Seventeen percent of the state experienced moderate to severe drought, unchanged from the previous week.

Here’s a look at how crops fared recently:

Small grains: Winter wheat planted reached 27%, dropping 11 points from last year. Winter wheat emerged reached 7%, a gain of three points from last year. Planted oats reached 3%, a gain of three points from last year.

Raw crops: Mature corn reached 75%, up 11 points from the previous year. Harvested corn reached 30%, dropping five points from last year.

Sorghum coloring reached 90%, dropping one point from the previous year. Mature sorghum reached 50% for a one-point gain from the previous year. Harvested sorghum reached 29%, marking a four-point increase from the previous year.

Soybeans setting pods reached 93%, up four points from the previous year. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 33% for a 16-point gain from the previous year. Harvested soybeans reached the 3% mark, up three points from last year.

Mature peanuts reached 51%, up 15 points from the previous year. Harvested peanuts were at 2% for a two-point gain from last year. Opening cotton bolls reached 55%, down nine points from last year.

Hay: The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 87%, up nine points from last year. The fifth cutting was at nine percent, a 9-point increase from last year. The second cutting of other hay reached 90%, unchanged from last year. The third cutting of other hay reached 40%, a five-point drop from last year.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 72% good to fair, and livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
