The current workforce is a blend of several generations. In some offices you can find baby boomers, millennials and Gen Zers working side by side. I love seeing this variety of age, perspectives and life experiences in the office. When the office environment is healthy, this variety of ages can create incredible solutions or invent new products or services; the list of possibilities is endless.

Each generation has different nuances, needs, and communication styles. It takes a true leader to create a healthy work environment. Maintaining an open mind is not enough to seamlessly blend these generations together.

Here are some tips to help you create a healthy work environment:

• Be respectful of each person’s experience and expertise. No matter what generation someone is from, they have something to offer. Be open to learning from others.

• Be patient and understanding. People from different generations have different values and priorities. Be patient with people who may not see things the way you do, and be understanding of their different perspectives.

• Celebrate diversity. The fact that we have people from different generations in the workplace is a strength. Embrace the diversity of thought and experience that different generations bring to the table.

Creating good communication in the office is a tricky skill, especially with the variety of generations. Here are some tips to help create good communication within the office:

• Be direct, honest and clear.
• Be respectful and inclusive.

• Be patient and respectful of each person’s time.

• Be professional, authentic and transparent.

• Be concise.

• Be visual and social.

Millennials and Gen Zers are typically active on social media, so try various platforms to connect with them and build positive relationships.

People are people. If you treat them the way you want to be treated, and always strive for professionalism, you are well on your way to creating an office environment conducive to supporting every generation.
