Oklahoma’s leading cattlemen are supporting Sen. Larry Boggs (R-Wilburton) in the SD-7 Republican runoff. Because of HB-2008, co-sponsored by Sen. Boggs, industry leaders have begun planning a new beef processing plant in southeast Oklahoma.

“I went to the State Capitol with our cattlemen as a top priority,” Sen. Boggs says. “Cattlemen are the lifeblood of Southeast Oklahoma and the new processing plant will be a tremendous boost to our economy. It will reduce transportation costs for ranchers and create scores of new jobs.”

The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association is urging voters to support Larry Boggs so he can continue his work on behalf of ranchers.

“Senator Boggs is a strong voice for common-sense solutions at our State Capitol,” says Michael Kelsey with the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association. “He can be counted on to protect and preserve property rights such as his support this past session to protect landowners’ groundwater rights in Eminent Domain Actions. This past session, Senator Boggs also supported legislation requiring clear and transparent labeling of fake meat products. OCA is proud to support and work with Senator Boggs as he knows firsthand the great work Oklahoma cattle producers do every day raising great tasting, safe and wholesome beef.”

HB 2008 allows the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry to develop standards for marketing and selling of beef and bison products within the state. Senator Boggs met with a task force of cattlemen and local business leaders, as well as the tribal, county, and city representatives from across Oklahoma last week in McAlester to discuss options for the new beef processing plant.

The Senate District 7 GOP runoff is scheduled for August 25, 2020. The general election is scheduled for November 3, 2020.
