The Olustee Town Board of Trustees recently approved Christmas bonuses for the town’s police chief and city judge.

The board voted 4-0 on Dec. 7 to approve a $700 bonus for the police chief and a $100 bonus for the city judge, which is a part-time position. Mayor Patty Light was absent.

The bonuses were built into Olustee’s budget at the start of the fiscal year as part of the town’s payroll expenses for municipal employees.

Acting as the Olustee Public Works Authority, the board unanimously approved end-of-year bonuses for the town’s executive assistant, the maintenance supervisor, and part-time maintenance and office workers.

The PWA had discussed the bonuses during a Nov. 10 closed session but tabled action on the issue until Dec. 7.

The executive assistant and maintenance supervisor will each receive a $700 bonus, while the part-time workers will receive $300 apiece. Those bonuses were also budgeted at the beginning of the fiscal year as part of payroll expenses for PWA employees.

The executive assistant oversees all office duties and the utility department but performs other tasks as well, while the maintenance supervisor is in charge of utility maintenance and other duties. The two positions work together for the public works authority.
