CHEYENNE – Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, will receive a $1 million federal grant to help manufacturers in northwest and central Oklahoma respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funds for the grant come from the CARES Act, which provided $1.5 billion to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration for programs designed to help the state’s economy get back on its feet.

The grant is a boon for the state’s economy, said U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Cheyenne.

“The Commerce Department and EDA’s investment comes at a crucial time as Oklahoma recover from the coronavirus pandemic,” he said in a press release. “I’m extremely proud of the work Oklahoma State University has done to help assist local manufacturers and job creators across northeast and central Oklahoma. Thanks to OSU’s efforts and the EDA’s investment, Oklahoma will soon have an additional 500 jobs added to our growing economy.”

The grant will be matched with $485,000 in local funds and is expected to create 500 jobs.
