LAWTON – Apparently overnight rainfall played havoc with traffic Tuesday on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated six mishaps on the toll road between Lawton and the Newcastle gate by noon Tuesday, the Lawton dispatcher confirmed. At least one other collision occurred, but the drivers considered it minor and didn’t want the OHP summoned.
In one incident involving “a couple of cars,” a center median barricade was knocked into the opposing traffic lane. “Numerous” vehicles drove through the debris field and some sustained one or more flat tires, the dispatcher said.
The wrecks occurred in the northbound and southbound lanes alike, the dispatcher said.
