From staff reports Those interested in applying to Leadership Lawton/Fort Sill Class 34 have until Wednesday, July 31, the organization’s board of directors recently announced.
The program “helps both adults and teens improve their leadership skills to make a positive impact on their community,” the organization’s website states.
“The mission of Leadership Lawton/Fort Sill is to promote individual leadership growth that will better serve our community,' said Chairperson Joe Elkins. “Some alumni have gone on to serve on the city council, as board members for the chamber of commerce.”
Running from August 2024 to June 2025, the 10-month course students learn valuable skills such as how to serve on boards, facilitate community service projects and address issues in city and state governments. Classes usually run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. one day a month. In addition, members meet in small groups for monthly mentoring sessions.
Graduates gain a wealth of practical knowledge they can use to better their community, the website states. Topics covered include:
• City, state and federal government.
• Fort Sill and national security.
• Economic development.
• Human services.
• Criminal justice.
• Health services.
• Education.
• The arts. “Many graduates serve on our board, and others have gone on to Leadership Oklahoma,” Elkins said.
A $25.00 non-refundable application fee is due with your application. Tuition installment plans will be considered for members not sponsored by a business; full payment is due by Nov. 26.
