LAWTON – August 20 is the last day to apply for voter registration for the City of Lawton
municipal election to be held September 14.

Persons who are not registered to vote or need to change registration information can do so by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form postmarked no later than midnight August 20.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the upcoming election is September 7, Election Board Secretary Amy Sims said.

Those applications can be found by using the Ok Voter Portal access. The voter registration application must be printed and mailed to the County Election Board Office, which is in Room 206 of the Comanche County Courthouse, 315 SW 5 th Street in Lawton, 73501. The absentee application can be filled out online and will be emailed to the Election Board office, Sims said.

In the election next month Lawton voters will select a mayor and a new City Council member for Ward 2; incumbent Keith Jackson did not seek re-election. Five candidates filed for that post: Mark Malone, Kelly Harris, Richard Strickland, Justin Hackney and Shelli Fox.

In Ward 1, incumbent Mary Ann Hankins filed unopposed for a second three-year term.

Mayor Stan Booker also filed for a second three-year term, but drew two challengers: Sherene Williams, a Lawton native who is a retired Army lieutenant colonel, and Palmer Lee Moore Jr., a bail bondsman who filed for mayor three years ago.
