From staff reports The City of Chickasha announced two events in May that will help citizens with their spring-cleaning activities.
The city will host its annual Garage Sale Weekend on May 8-10, with no permits or fees required for residents who want to participate.
“We know citizens are always eager to make use of the Garage Sale Weekend,” City Manager Jim Crosby said.
“It is a great opportunity for people to recycle their unwanted or unused items, and to interact with their neighbors in a fun way. Whether you’re downsizing, decluttering, or just hoping to make a little extra cash, we hope you’ll take advantage of the free Garage Sale Weekend.”
Citizens are allowed to advertise their sale with a sign on their property without needing a sign permit. All signs must be removed when the sale is over. Citizens who would like to be on a list of garage sales are invited to submit their address and information at chickasha.org/sale.
In addition, the city also will host the Spring Clean Up event May 1417. Residents are invited to use free dumpsters to get rid of unwanted items, including large, bulky items that may not be suitable for curbside pickup.
“We are committed to supporting residents who want to keep their homes and neighborhoods looking their best,” Crosby said. “The Spring Clean-Up gives everyone the chance to dispose of large items responsibly and help keep our city clean and beautiful.”
Dumpsters for the Spring Clean Up will be at Public Works, located at 502 N. Genevieve St. Residents can drop off items from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 14 through May 16, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 17. Limb dropoff will also be available during that time.
Citizens and businesses wanting to use the dumpsters will need to show a copy of their Chickasha water bill. The Community Development Department will provide a ticket to those who live in Chickasha city limits but do not have a water bill due to ongoing work or code violations; to receive the ticket, stop by City Hall during business hours.
Hazardous materials will not be accepted during the Spring Clean Up event. Items not allowed in the dumpsters include tires, batteries, oil, paint, liquids, pesticides, or hazardous materials. If you have anything with Freon, such as a refrigerator, you should have it removed by a technician and be able to provide a certificate stating all Freon has been drained.
