LAWTON – Susan Schlecht, an employee of the city of Lawton, has earned the Certified Government Financial Manager designation.

The CGFM certification is overseen by the Association of Government Accountants, according to a news release from City Hall. Certified government financial managers demonstrate competency in government accounting, auditing, financial reporting, internal controls and budgeting at the federal, state and local levels. Benefits of earning this credential include recognition of specialized knowledge and experience, as well as expanded career opportunities.

Schlecht is the component unit accountant for the city’s finance department and has been with the city for 17 years, according to the news release. She received her bachelor of business degree in accounting in December 2018 and graduated with honors. She is currently a member of AGA, the Association of Government Accountants.

“I am extremely proud of Susan and her recent certification designation,” said Finance Director Joe Don Dunham. “It took a lot of work for Susan to get this certification, and we couldn’t be more proud of her and her dedication.”
