Comanche Co. voter registration applications due by Aug. 15

From staff reports LAWTON – Aug. 15 is the l ast day to apply for voter registration for people who want to be eligible to vote in the Sept. 9 special elections, Comanche County Election Board Secretary Amy Sims said in a news release.

People who are citizens of the United States, residents of Oklahoma and at least 17.5 years old may apply for voter registration, but they must be at least 18 years old to vote, Sims said.

Applications must be received by the county election board or postmarked no later than midnight Aug. 15. Any applications received after the deadline will be accepted but will not be processed until after the Sept. 9 election.

Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that serves as an official voter registration agency by the deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed, and approved voters will receive a voter ID card in the mail. Some people may receive a letter explaining the reason or reasons why their application was not approved.

People who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the county election board immediately.

Applications must be approved by the election board secretary before voters can cast a ballot.

Registered voters who have moved to Comanche County from a different county or state must complete a new voter registration application to be eligible to vote in county elections. Voters who have moved within the county and need to update their address may make changes online using the O K Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp, or they may complete a voter registration application.

Applications can be downloaded from the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website, oklahoma.gov/elections. People may also fill out an application at the county election board office.

Most post off ices, tag agencies and public libraries have applications available upon request.

The county election board office is located at 315 SW Fifth St., Room 206, in Lawton. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
