Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.45 of an inch for the week of Aug. 2-8, with the southeast district recording the highest total at 0.84 of an inch.

Drought conditions for the state were rated 9% abnormally dry to exceptionally dry, unchanged from the previous week, according to the Aug. 3 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 2% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, up one point from the previous week.

Statewide temperatures averaged in the high 70s. Topsoil moisture and subsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly adequate to short.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week:

Row crops: Corn silk reached 90%, down four points from the previous year and three points from normal. Corn dough reached 40%, down two points from the previous year and 11 points from normal.

Sorghum headed reached 46%, down 12 points from the previous year and 12 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 12%, down 12 points from the previous year and 13 points from normal.

Soybeans blooming reached 55%, up three points from the previous year and one point from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 25%, up six points from the previous year and three points from normal.

Peanuts pegging reached 66%, down four points from the previous year and eight points from normal.

Cotton squaring reached 87%, down seven points from the previous year and seven points from normal. Cotton setting bolls reached 43%, down nine points from the previous year and nine points from normal.

Hay: The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 60%, down 12 points from the previous year and 10 points from normal. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 5%, down three points from the previous year and six points from normal.

The second cutting of other hay reached 49%, up one point from the previous year but down five points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 77% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 81% good to fair.
