CHICKASHA – When Margaret Honegger graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1956, she was building on a legacy that her mother, Maggie Mae Pruitt, began when she earned her degree in piano performance in 1922.

Now, thanks to Honegger’s $100,000 donation, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma will be able to enhance some of its services and honor the bond between the women and the university.

The Maggie Mae Pruitt Practice Room in Davis Hall will feature a new piano, modernized soundproofing and other necessities to help music students hone their craft. A portion of Honegger’s donation will be used for that project, leaving the remaining funds for other uses.

The Alumni Association’s offices in Troutt Hall will also be renovated. Improvements to the forthcoming Honegger-Pruitt Alumni Office suite will include workplace modernization, display cases for photos and memorabilia, and resources for the Pathways Alumni Mentor program.

Part of the funds will be used to endow a named scholarship through the Alumni Association.
