East Lawton water lines to be replaced

LAWTON – A seven-figure contract to replace nearly eighttenths of a mile of water lines in east Lawton was awarded by the City Council.

The lines are located east of NE 15th Street to NE Flower Mound Road, and south of Gore Boulevard to Lee Boulevard, Public Utilities Director Rusty Whisenhunt said.

Timco Blasting & Coatings, of Bristow, won the contract with a $1,733,638 bid, the lowest “responsible and responsive” bid of five submitted for the job.

Approximately 4,100 linear feet of pipe and several fire hydrants will be replaced, records reflect. The lines are old and prone to leak and break, Whisenhunt said.

The work is to be completed in approximately eight months.

The project will be financed from a $30 million Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan authorized jointly by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and the state Department of Environmental Quality.
