Family Promise to showcase new shelter renovations

From staff reports The Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Aug. 13 ribbon cutting and open house for Family Promise of Lawton to celebrate its newly renovated shelter at 4 p.m. at 901 SW 17th St. in Lawton. After the ceremony, visitors can take an interactive tour of the new space until 6 p.m.

Sarah Svec, the executive director of Family Promise of Lawton, said she is thrilled about the renovations.

'You guys can’t even imagine how excited I am to show off the shelter renovations,” she said.

“I literally squeal every time I see another part finished!”

Svec said the tour will show how each space is designed to help families who have experienced difficult situations.

With help from local churches and community groups, Family Promise provides support and resources to empower families to become independent and break the cycle of homelessness through prevention, shelter and support and stabilization. Their goal is to make sure every family has a safe home and a way to earn a living.

The organization's vision is a community where every family has a safe home and a chance to build a better future. They work with local churches and oth-er community groups to get help and resources for the families they serve.
