LAWTON – The FISTA Development Trust Authority recently approved a series of change orders for remodeling the former Sears building in Central Plaza.

The six change orders included the following modifications:

  • Changing the fence layout and installing larger gates, additional concrete and asphalt. Cost: $70,000.
  • Eliminating extra electrical fixtures that were not part of the project’s lighting plan. Cost savings: $24,678.
  • Adding 580 feet of conduit and 2,000 feet of wire for the electrical grounding system. Cost: $17,465.
  • Adding six more double front doors. Cost: $53,594.
  • Extending the north and east conference center walls to the roof deck. Cost: $16,939.
  • Installing 12 84-inch bollards with stainless steel sleeves at the north entrance. Cost: $32,491.

The change orders will be paid out of FISTA contingency funds, which were built into the budget for the Sears remodel, Strategic Operations Manager Tiera Cole said in an email to a Southwest Ledger reporter. The project’s guaranteed maximum price, about $7 million, remains unchanged.

FISTA is converting the former Sears building into a hub for defense contractors, known as the FISTA Innovation Park. The business park is part of FISTA’s efforts to recruit contractors who can support the Fires Center of Excellence, a Fort Sill-based program to modernize the U.S. Army.
