Former landfill site leased for another year

CHICKASHA – Forty acres the Chickasha Municipal Authority owns and previously used as a sanitary landfill for the disposal of trash and other debris has been leased for another year.

The property is located about a mile west of 29th Street on Grand Avenue. The CMA used the property as a landfill for several years but closed the site in the early 1990s “and has been establishing a ground cover” on the acreage “since that time,” city officials said.

Alan Schenk, who owns property adjacent to the site, “gave notice that he would like to extend his lease for another year,” City Clerk Susan McDaniel informed the CMA. Schenk has leased the CMA land “for at least 18 years,” Councilman John Smith said.

Schenk, doing business as Dobe Farms, will rent the site in 2025 for a total of $400, city records reflect.
