Several county-level races were settled in the June 18 GOP primary election, while the top two vote-getters in two races will face off again in the upcoming special primary election.
Here’s a roundup of the southwest Oklahoma counties that had primary races and their results, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board. An (I) by the candidate’s name denotes the incumbent.
Caddo County Sheriff Brynn Barnett – 587 votes (37.20%).
Spencer Davis (I) – 991 votes (62.80%).
Comanche County Sheriff Dell Galloway – 719 votes (12.63%).
Michael Merritt – 2,512 votes (44.13%).
Andy Moon – 2,461 votes (43.24%).
Merritt and Moon will be in a runoff primary election, set for Aug. 27. The winner will face Democratic candidate David Stroud in November.
Grady County Court Clerk Carolyn Bowen – 2,783 votes (48.35%).
Mica S. Hackney – 2,856 votes (50.65%).
County Clerk Neva Ford – 2,294 votes (39.57%.)
Jill Locke (I) – 3,503 votes (60.43%.)
Commissioner, District 1 Ruth Bingham – 691 votes (38.93%.)
Kirk L. Painter (I) – 674 votes (37.97%).
Garland G. Terry – 410 votes (23.10%).
Painter and Bingham are headed to a runoff primary vote Aug. 27. The winner of that election will claim the seat.
Kiowa County Commissioner District 2 Daniel Rogers – 146 votes (45.34%).
Brent Staub – 176 votes (54.66%).
Staub advances to the November ballot, where he will face Independent candidate Ricky McCollom.
Stephens County Sheriff Rick Lang – 4,354 votes (76.52%).
Bill Straily – 1,336 votes (23.48%).
Commissioner District 2 Todd Churchman (I) – 1,349 votes (64.67%). Stephen Upchurch – 737 votes (35.33%).
Duncan Proposition 1 (PSO Extension) Yes – 2,582 votes (79.13%).
No – 681 votes (20.87%).
Duncan Proposition 2 (Sales Tax Extension) Yes – 1,662 votes (50.69%).
No – 1,617 votes (49.31%).
Tillman County Sheriff Oscar Juanes – 568 votes (66.36%).
Robert B. Wallace – 288 votes (33.64%). Washita County Sheriff Kevin Rozell – 764 votes (59.46%).
Russell Stewart – 521 votes (40.54%).
County Clerk – GOP Kristen Dowell (I) 861 votes (66.44%). Angie Strobel – 435 votes (33.56%).
Commissioner Dist. 2 Leo Goeringer – 176 votes (39.20%).
David Gray – 273 votes (60.80%).
Assessor (unexpired term) Rusty Bookout – 735 votes (56.89%).
Sue Fletcher – 557 votes (43.11%).
