OKLAHOMA CITY – Gotebo received a $99,250 Rural Economic Action Plan grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board recently to renovate its antiquated water system.

Jerri Hargis, projects and operations manager in the Water Board’s Financial Assistance Division, said the funds will be used to:

• Install a handful of fire hydrants; two units will be new hydrants and three will be replacements.

• Replace approximately six-tenths of a mile of water lines. Gotebo has 4-inch diameter sand-cast lines that have deteriorated and need repair, officials said. The REAP grant will be used to replace those lines with 3,350 linear feet of new lines: 6-inch pipe, primarily, but also 500 linear feet of 3-inch lines, Hargis said.

The project has not been let for bids yet, she said.

Gotebo has 85 water taps, ledgers reflect. The Kiowa County town buys treated water from Caddo County Rural Water District #3, which is based in Carnegie and pumps its water from 18 wells, according to the district’s latest water quality report.
