Several members of southwestern Oklahoma’s legislative delegation have announced they will run for re-election this year.

Though the filing period for the 2020 fall campaign is still a few months offset for April 8 through 10 - at least six area lawmakers have indicated they would seek another term in the Legislature. Under the Oklahoma Constitution, members of both the Oklahoma House of Representatives and the Oklahoma Senate are limited to 12 years of legislative service.

This year, state Representatives Trey Caldwell, R-Lawton; Toni Hasenbeck, R-Elgin; Marcus McIntire, R-Duncan; Daniel Pae, R-Lawton; and Rande Worthen, R-Lawton, have all indicated they will seek re-election. State Sen. Chris Kidd, R-Waurika, said he, too, plans to run for office again.

In addition to choosing members of Congress and state lawmakers, Oklahomans also will help choose a President this year and voting begins early. This year, a presidential preferential primary election is set for

March 3. Early voting will be held Feb. 27-29.

As of Nov. 1, 2019, data from the Oklahoma Election Board shows almost 2.1 million residents are registered to vote. Records show 2,079,048 Oklahomans have registered; that figure includes 739,762 Democrats, 1,000,696 Republicans, 10,795 Libertarians and 327,795 Independents.

Those numbers are up over voter registration for 2018. That year, 2,016,517 Oklahomans were registered to vote, including 769,772 Democrats, 942,621 Republicans, 4,897 Libertarians and 298,867 Independents.

Sooner State voters will return to the polls on June 30 for the state’s primary election. Early voting for that election, state election officials said, will be held June 25-27.

Should it be required, a primary runoff election is scheduled for Aug. 25, with early voting scheduled for Aug. 20-22.

Oklahoma’s general election is scheduled for Nov. 3. Early voting in that election is set for Oct. 29-31.

On regular election days, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters are required to show either their driver’s license or their voter registration card.
