LAWTON – Residential trash collection in Lawton will transition to once-a-week pick-up on April 5.

Under the new schedule, refuse will be collected:

• Mondays in Area 1: north of Gore Boulevard, south of Rogers Lane and west of 38th Street. Bulk pick-up will be on the first Wednesday of the month.

• Tuesdays in Area 2: east of 38th Street, west of 11th Street, south of Rogers Lane and north of Gore Boulevard. Bulk trash pick-up will occur on the second Wednesday of the month.

• Thursdays in Area 3: south of Gore Boulevard and west of 11th Street. Bulk trash collection will be on the third Wednesday of the month.

• Fridays in Area 4: east of 11th Street and south of Rogers Lane, but including Pioneer Park subdivision. Bulk solid-waste pick-up will be on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

Wednesdays will be reserved for once-a-month curbside pick-up of as much as four cubic yards of solid waste, relieving residents of having to transport it themselves to the municipal sanitary landfill. According to city officials, four cubic yards is equivalent to two refrigerators, three queen mattresses, two couches, or a stack of brush 3ft. x 6ft. x 6ft.

In addition, trash will be picked up on every holiday this year that occurs on a weekday, except for Thanksgiving, Deputy City Manager Richard Rogalski said.

“This plan is not only better for the environment, but will also create cleaner neighborhoods and allow saving measures incurred to be put toward needed maintenance and equipment,” Rogalski said.

Lawtonians pay $18.47 per month for residential curbside trash pickup from one 95-gallon poly cart, which is designed to hold up to 300 pounds of solid waste. Residents can lease as many as three additional poly carts, at a cost of $5.20 per month each.
