Rumors of the impending closure of the Dillard’s department store in Lawton’s Central Mall have been confirmed.
A sign posted on the door recently announced that the store is closing and a clearance sale has begun. The sign directs customers to two other Dillard’s stores: one at Sikes Senter Mall in Wichita Falls, Texas, and one at Sooner Mall in Norman.
Dillard’s was one of the anchor stores when Lawton’s Central Mall opened four decades ago, in 1979. It was not known immediately how many employees will lose their jobs because of the shutdown, nor is the store’s final day known.
The Southwest Ledger placed a call to a telephone number that appears on the Dillard’s Department Stores website. The call was answered by a machine with a recorded message that related, “We are unable to take your call at this time. Please call later.”
The Ledger call was placed at 4:27 p.m. Tuesday. The company’s website claims that customers can contact Dillard’s Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. CST.
