Lawton hospitals provide myriad medical specialties

LAWTON – Between them, Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Medical Center offer a host of medical specialties.

Both hospitals have an emergency room. Southwestern’s is staffed 24/7, serves approximately 18,600 patients annually, and has an 11-bed unit that includes urgent care, behavioral health, and critical care services.

Memorial has a full-service emergency department staffed with skilled physicians, heart doctors, nurses, and other emergency personnel who are trained in basic and advanced life support.

The CCMH Level III Trauma Center is prepared to handle a wide range of emergency situations, from major injuries to minor lacerations, bumps and bruises.

Both hospitals also provide wound care and hyperbaric medicine. They treat chronic wounds “that have not responded to standard treatment of care, such as multiple types of ulcers, surgical wounds, soft tissue wounds, chronic refractor osteomyelitis, burns, and traumatic wounds.

CCMH offers bariatric surgery for treatment of obesity, and SWMC provides nutritional services to assist patients in “making the best food choices possible for weight and illness management.”

Both hospitals offer vascular health care, noting that stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and is a leading cause of disability in the U.S.

Both also provide infusion therapy services and specialty injections for antibiotics and chronic diseases.

CCMH has the Physical Rehabilitation Center of Southwest Oklahoma and the School of Medical Technology.

CCMH also has a group of board-certified medical professionals who include neurologists and neurosurgeons who are supported by a team of nurses and other allied health professionals.

SWMC and CCMH also have board-certified specialists in anesthesia and management of chronic back or neck pain.

The CCMH Center for Occupational Health provides comprehensive occupational health services to businesses in Southwest Oklahoma. The variety of services includes blood-alcohol tests and drug screening, pre-employment physicals, initial and follow-up injury visits, EKGs, X-rays, and laboratory testing.

Other specialties available from one or both hospitals include allergy and asthma care, cancer care, treatment of sleep deprivation, diabetes treatment, family care, home health and hospice, radiology, orthopedic services, podiatry, pharmacy, surgical services, and women’s health.
