OKLAHOMA CITY — State lawmakers will face 3,017 pieces of legislation and 62 joint resolutions when they return to the Capitol next month for the first session of the 59th Oklahoma Legislature.
In the House, members filed 1,901 bills and 44 joint resolutions. Members of the Oklahoma Senate filed 1,116 bills and 18 joint resolutions before filing deadline.
Those figures do not include several appropriations bills, Senate Resolutions or Senate Concurrent Resolutions. Senate rules allow those measures to be filed throughout the session.
Both houses of the Legislature remain firmly in GOP control. Republicans hold 81 seats in the House, while Democrats have 20. In the Senate, the GOP has 40 seats to the Democrats’ eight.
The legislative session will begin at noon Feb. 6. Lawmakers will meet in joint session to hear Gov. Kevin Stitt deliver the State of the State address.
