LAWTON – Comanche County District 1 has a new representative on the Comanche County Board of Commissioners.
The new commissioner, Trent Logan, was sworn into office in a brief ceremony before the commission’s June 3 meeting. He is taking over from District 1 Commissioner John O’Brien, who was suspended from office May 7 after a multicounty grand jury recommended his removal.
O’Brien, who joined the commission in 2022, is awaiting trial on two felony embezzlement charges and three misdemeanor charges. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 4.
Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed Logan to replace O’Brien until a special election to fill the seat, which has not been scheduled yet.
Logan said he is looking forward to serving the people in District 1.
“I’m extremely excited, and I’m also very confident,” he said in an interview following the June 3 meeting. “The list of responsibilities for a county commissioner personally fits some of my natural talents and abilities.”
Small-business owner Logan, who owns a Lawton-based real estate company and a flooring business, said he decided to seek the office when he learned about O’Brien’s legal issues.
“I had already had an acquaintance in the governor’s office – a personal acquaintance – and I just threw my name in the hat,” Logan said. “They were like ‘Well, you need to tell everybody that you know. You need to tell every attorney that you know. You need to tell every judge that you know.’” Logan said he discussed his interest in the position with several people, including Commission Chairman Josh Powers, and those conversations led to his being put on a list of candidates. Logan said the governor’s office interviewed him, and he learned June 1 that he had been named to the commission.
