MEDICINE PARK – Medicine Park officials are asking the Association of South Central Oklahoma Governments, an organization which assists local governments in planning for their needs, to help pay for upgrading the access r oad that leads to the town’s post off ice.
The Medicine Park Board of Trustees voted unanimously Aug. 15 to apply to ASCOG for a $45,000 Rural Economic Action Plan grant for the project. Grant writer Melissa Beck was appointed as the point of contact for the application, and Mayor John Branch was authorized to sign the grant application.
Branch liked the town’s chances of receiving a REAP grant, he said in a short interview after the meeting.
“I think that w e have a really good shot now of g etting it this year,” he said.
Branch said town officials want to pave the access road, which stretches from state Highway 49 to the post office. The town has already earmarked approximately $17,000 for the project, which would be paired with the REAP grant to cover the cost.
