A man who coordinated “the preparation and distribution of more than 34,000 nutritious meals throughout the Lawton-Fort Sill community” last year was proclaimed Lawton’s Citizen of the Month for March.
Harold Davis, a deacon who leads the St. John’s Baptist Feeding Ministry, received the proclamation from Mayor Stan Booker during the City Council meeting March 25.
Davis coordinates the efforts of approximately 130 volunteers who “work tirelessly to ensure that no member of our community goes hungry,” the proclamation relates.
If Davis and his volunteers maintained last year’s level of service every weekday during the nearly 13 years he has directed the food ministry, they have provided more than 415,000 meals to needy individuals.
“There are a lot of hungry people in Lawton,” Davis said.
