OKLAHOMA CITY — A new Republican organization — The Young Republican Women of Oklahoma, which is less than a year old — was forced to remove its president after questions were raised about the organization’s financial records.
In a media statement issued late Wednesday afternoon, the group said Brittany Anderson was removed from her position as president in June. In addition, the board immediately secured available records, sought legal guidance, and took appropriate steps to protect the organization’s interests.
The group’s Executive Board, First Vice President Sarah McGuckin, Treasurer Lynnisa Catlin, Second Vice President Madi Taylor Kelly, and Secretary Kennedy Vice, issued the statement about the change.
“In addition, the information and documentation gathered during the board’s review has been provided to the appropriate local law enforcement agency for review,” the group said. “The matter remains under review by law enforcement and is subject to the legal process. No conclusions should be drawn while those proceedings are pending.”
Sources told Southwest Ledger that questions have been raised about how more than $6,000 was spent. Anderson could not be reached for comment.
“Our members, supporters, and donors placed their trust in this organization, and we take that responsibility seriously,” McGuckin said. “When concerns came to light, we acted immediately to protect the organization’s assets, preserve the available records, and fulfill our fiduciary responsibilities to the membership.”
Records show the organization was created last November.
Members of the Executive Board said that, so far, they are not aware of any evidence indicating the remaining officers had prior knowledge of or involvement in the matters that are under legal review.
In addition, the Executive Board determined that rebranding the organization is in the best interest of its members and supporters. The board believes this decision provides an appropriate conclusion to the existing organization while creating an opportunity to move forward with a stronger foundation.
