Olustee approves drainage project

OLUSTEE – The Olustee Town Board of Trustees took care of housekeeping matters last month, accepting a drainage project as completed.

The board voted 3-0 on April 5 to accept the project, which cost $125,487, according to Town Clerk Kim Keller.

Trustees Patty Light and Linda Lopez did not attend the meeting.

The town had received a $91,637 Community Development Block Grant for the project and supplied another $33,850 in matching funds.

“The project finished one phase of four phases of the drainage project,” Keller stated in an email. “The town had already finished two other phases back in the late 1990s and early 2000s.”

In other business, the board closed out a $75,000 Rural Economic Action Plan grant. The town used the grant money, which did not require matching funds, to purchase a 2018 Case backhoe.

Acting as the Olustee Public Works Authority, the board voted 3-0 to buy a vacuum excavator for the water and sewer department from Key Equipment. The purchase will cost approximately $28,205.
