From staff reports Oklahoma gained back an oiland- gas drilling unit in the past week to record a total of 41 active rigs, according to the latest Baker Hughes Co. rig count released Friday.
The 41 compared to 37 rigs reported a year earlier. It also helped increase the nation’s rig count by one to 586. In the past week, the count included a gain of two oil rigs for a total of 481 while the gas rig count declined one to 101, and four rigs were listed as “miscellaneous.”
The U.S. count is still 36 below the 622 oil and gas rigs reported a year ago by Baker Hughes. Over the past year, the rig count saw a decline of 20 oil rigs and 16 gas rigs, and the number of offshore rigs is down by four.
Texas had a gain of six rigs to reach 285, while North Dakota, another of the big oil-producing states, was unchanged at 33 rigs. New Mexico’s count slipped by two to a count of 99 active rigs. The count in Louisiana also fell by two, to 38 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report in Wichita showed the Kansas rig count grew one to 29. Colorado was unchanged at 11 rigs. Ohio saw no change with nine rigs, and Pennsylvania’s count slipped by two to 13 rigs. Utah continued with a count of 11 rigs. West Virginia stayed at 10 rigs and Wyoming was unchanged at 17 rigs.
