From staff reports The U.S. oil and gas rig activity held mostly steady over the past week as the latest Baker Hughes Rig Count showed a decline of only one rig, leaving a total of 592 active throughout the country.
Oklahoma held steady at 53 rigs, nine more than the 44 rigs reported one year ago.
The U.S. count included a drop of two oil rigs to 484 while there was a gain of one gas rig for a total of 103. The miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at five. The offshore rig count saw no change with 14.
The U.S. total is 29 below the 621 reported last year. The decline included 22 oil rigs and nine gas rigs while there was a gain of two miscellaneous rigs.
Texas remained at 280 rigs and New Mexico’s total of 101 was one less than a week ago. North Dakota’s count of 32 was the same as last week and Louisiana continued with 32 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report in Kansas showed a gain of six to reach 23 rigs. Colorado remained at eight and Ohio gained one for a total of 10 rigs.
Pennsylvania’s total fell one to 14 and Utah was unchanged with 12 rigs. West Virginia continued with 11 rigs and Wyoming remained at 21. Alaska stayed at 10 rigs and California remained at eight rigs.
