OWASSO – Pro football Hall of Famer, former congressman and one-time gubernatorial candidate Steve Largent of Tulsa will join coreNOC, a Native American-owned telecommunications equipment, design and deployment company, as executive strategic adviser.

Largent, 68, previously was the president and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association.

“The depth of experience Steve brings to our team will continue to drive coreNOC,” which is “bridging the digital divide by partnering with communities and businesses to deploy 5G service in underserved areas,” company CEO Johnie Johnson said.

“coreNOC’s passion for connecting the underserved, especially those in Indian Country, makes being a part of this group an incredible opportunity,” Largent said.

The University of Tulsa graduate “will play an important role as we evaluate current and future strategic initiatives and opportunities to continue to grow coreNOC,” said Johnson, who served with Largent on the CTIA board of directors.

Largent formerly was a motivational speaker with Washington, D.C.-based Wiley Rein & Fielding.

Largent spent 14 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League as a wide receiver, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1995.

He represented Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994-2001, and was the Republican nominee for governor in 2002 but lost to Democrat Brad Henry. Largent and his family reside in Tulsa.
