Twenty-eight states used private prison facilities in 2022

Three years ago, 18.7% of Oklahoma’s convicts were incarcerated in private prisons such as the ones in Law ton and Hinton that are operated by GEO. Montana led the nation with almost half of its inmate population in private prisons in 2022. As of last year, approximately 23% of all Oklahoma convicts were housed in the two prisons operated by GEO.
