The city of Woodward will receive a $2 million federal grant, which will be matched by more than $1.2 million in local investment, for improvements at Woodward Industrial Airpark.

The Economic Development Administration grant will help support Woodward’s businesses following the 2018 wildfires, U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas said in a news release.

“Western Oklahoma is no stranger to fires and other natural disasters, and today’s investment will help Woodward’s businesses expand and continue to rebuild,” he said.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe said the grant will help pay for building renovations at the airpark.

“We know that airports are economic hubs for communities, and this investment will spur economic activity and job growth in the area,” Inhofe said.

The project came out of regional planning efforts led by the Oklahoma Economic Development Authority, which receives federal funds to help the public and private sectors create a plan for boosting the region’s economy, supporting private capital investments and creating jobs.

Federal funds for the project came from a program designed to help areas that were affected by natural disasters in 2018 and 2019.
