Consumer credit cards show few signs of financial stress

The Federal Reserve began tightening mon-etary policy in March 2022 to combat higher inflation. This tighten-ing, in turn, increased borrowing costs for a wide range of consum-er financial products such as auto loans, mortgages, and credit cards.

Efforts underway to control prairie dogs, Canada geese in Lawton

Many Lawton residents appreciate wildlife, but the proliferation of prairie dogs and Canada geese causes a few problems.“We have more than 500 prairie dogs on the east side right now,” Larry Parks, director of Lawton’s Parks and Recreation Department, estimated in September.
City of Lawton This drive-through utility payment building, designed to streamline the utility-bill payment process for Lawtonians, has been constructed at the northwest corner of the City Hall parking lot, 212 SW 9th St. The facility will provide drive-through service staffed by Utility Services personnel from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and a self-service kiosk for after-hours payments. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the new service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

Commission approves raise for sheriff-elect

LAWTON – Comanche County Sheriff- elect Michael Merritt recently received a raise, and he may see another pay increase when he takes office in January.With little discussion, the Board of Comanche County Commissioners voted 3-0 Nov. 25 to approve a raise for Merritt.
