LAWTON – Comanche County recently amended its notice of award and subrecipient award agreement with the Lawton Farmers Market Institute to include additional project information. Without comment, the Comanche County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 April 8 to approve the amended agreement with the institute.

Lawton city officials condemn councilman’s comments

From staff reports LAWTON – Two city officials issued a statement Friday in rebuke of comments that were uttered “in the heat of the moment” during the April 9 City Council meeting. Councilman Kelly Harris “made statements … that were insensitive and hurtful to the Native American community,” Mayor Stan Booker and Mayor Pro Tempore Randy Warren wrote in their prepared statement.

Elgin delays action on $2M Watts Road project

ELGIN – Faced with a nearly $2 million bid for rebuilding Watts Road from Northeast 75th Street to Tony Creek Road, the Elgin City Council decided to delay action on the issue. The council voted 4-0 April 10 to tab le Biggs Concrete Construction’s bid to do the work for about $1.99 million and revisit the bid at a s pecial meeting.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Committee work is still progressing and policy bills are still being heard in the Senate despite a budget standoff with the state House of Representatives. Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat (R-Oklahoma City) said in his weekly press conference last Thursday that there may be some misunderstanding about the Appropriations Committee not hearing House bills until both chambers’ budgets are open and available.
