Chickasha library hosting Festival of Freedom activities

Chickasha Public Library has announced a full slate of summer activities as part of the town’s Festival of Freedom. Activities are planned for every age and to suit a variety of interests.The Patriotic Book Club is hosted at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays through July 2.

EPA awards Oklahoma $27.45M for lead water line removal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced Oklahoma will receive $27,456,000 to locate and replace lead pipes, to protect state residents from exposure to lead in drinking water.

Former Elgin superintendent received Purple Heart for World War II service

ELGIN – On July 1, 1942, Elgin native Arthur Farrar left his job as the Superintendent of Public Schools and enlisted in the U.S.Coast Guard Reserves as an Apprentice Seaman. Before accepting the position of superintendent, Farrar had been a teacher before becoming the high school principal.

Governor appoints new leader of embattled Mental Health Department

OKLAHOMA CITY — A struggling state agency will have its third commissioner in two and a half years.Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed Josh Anderson on Friday to be the interim leader of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
