This Stillwater Central Railroad mainline crossing on State Highway 54 approximately three miles north of U.S. Highway 62, in Kiowa County, is in line for a safety upgrade. According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the project will include installation of pedestal-mounted flashing light signals with gate arms that will lower automatically when trains approach the intersection. Federal funds will pay 90% of the $263,000 project cost and state funds will finance the other 10%, ledgers reflect. An average of 780 vehicles per day passed through that crossing in 2019, ODOT reported.
