Thirty-two percent of Oklahoma was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, up 12 points from the previous year, according to the Jan. 19 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Just 12% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, compared to 9% from the previous year.
Here’s a snapshot of how crops were doing as of Jan. 25, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service:
Small grains: Grazed winter wheat reached 51%, and grazed rye reached 22%.
Grazed oats reached 28%.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 74% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 86% good to fair.
