LAWTON – The city’s Parks and Recreation Department has been authorized to spend up to $119,000 for a variety of improvements to municipal parks.
The City Council approved expenditures of up to $104,280 from the 2015 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for new equipment. Those include:
• Replacing porcelain restroom fixtures with vandal-resistant fixtures (stainless-steel toilets and lavatory sinks) in McMahon and Greer parks: $22,380
• Vandal-resistant water fountains in Elmer Thomas, Grandview, Lee West and Eastside parks: $4,400
• Install time locks with panic bars in all city parks that have restrooms: $19,800
• Metal roofing in McMahon Park: $3,900
• Erect two park entry signs at McMahon and Liberty parks: $4,800
• Replace damaged sun canopies at Grandview, Eastside and McMahon parks: $18,000
• Replace the Lake Helen fountain motor in Elmer Thomas Park: $6,500
• Replace old picnic tables in all parks with durable modern units: $24,500
The council also authorized Parks and Recreation to spend up to $15,000 from the 2019 CIP to buy a commercial, trailer-mounted high-pressure washer (up to 4,000 pounds per square inch) for use in parks maintenance.
Parks and Recreation Director Jeffery Temple said the washer will provide parks personnel with “greater ability to remove graffiti from municipal buildings and property without causing damage to the surface or a need to repaint.”
