LAWTON – Blackwell’s former city manager is Lawton’s new community services and planning director.
Janet Smith was recently named to the position, according to a news release from City Manager Michael Cleghorn’s office.
As the community services/planning director, Smith will manage the department’s operations and oversee operations within the divisions of license and permits, inspection services, neighborhood services, housing and community development, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The department also oversees the Lawton Area Transit System and provides staff assistance for the Lawton Urban Renewal Authority, the Lawton Economic Development Authority and the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority.
In addition to serving as Blackwell’s city manager, Smith has held a variety of positions in city government. Those include stints as the city manager of Bethany, the city manager of Crescent, assistant to the city manager of Ponca City and a city management intern for the city of Edmond.
