LAWTON – A new limited-support agreement between Lawton and the Lawton Youth Sports Authority calls for the city to provide $300,000 in financial assistance to the authority for the new fiscal year.
The authority unanimously approved the agreement during a special meeting Wednesday at Lawton City Hall. The agreement must be approved by the Lawton City Council, which is scheduled to consider the item during Tuesday’s meeting.
Under the agreement, the city will provide $300,000 for the authority’s operations in fiscal year 2022-23. That amount covers most of the authority’s $318,500 budget for the year, with the rest coming from sponsorships, sports revenue and concessions.
The authority’s spending must be in keeping with the entity’s annual budget, which requires council approval.
Claims for funds will be processed by the city and paid to the authority according to the city’s policies for paying contractual claims, according to the agreement. The authority will only be reimbursed for budgeted funds spent in keeping with the agreement.
The authority may request that any budgeted funds that aren’t spent by the end of the fiscal year be included in the budget for next year, but the final decision rests with the council.
As part of the agreement, the authority must submit semiannual reports to the council. Those reports, which are due by Jan. 24 and July 25, 2023, will include information about current youth sports programs, future programs and upcoming activities and projects.
