Council seats to appear on September ballot

Body

LAWTON — A proposal to extend the ad valorem tax for Lawton’s road improvement program isn’t the only issue on the ballot in September.

Voters in Wards 6, 7 and 8 will choose their representatives on the Lawton City Council. Residents of Ward 6 will get two ballots: one for candidates to complete former Councilman Sean Fortenbaugh’s unexpired term, and one for candidates hoping to represent the ward for the next three years.

Fortenbaugh stepped down from the council in March, citing health reasons. In May, the council appointed Dr. Robert “Bob” Weger to fill the vacant seat until someone is chosen to finish Fortenbaugh’s unexpired term.

The primary election for Wards 6, 7 and 8 will be Sept. 12, with the general election set for Nov. 14 if necessary.
