CHICKASAW – The Grady County Commission will welcome a new board member in January.
Ruth Bingham won the right to represent District 2 on the commission in Tuesday’s GOP primary runoff election, according to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board. Bingham finished with 615 votes, or 55.16% of the total.
Her opponent, incumbent Commissioner Kirk Painter, came in second with 500 votes, or 44.84% of the total.
No Democrats filed for the District 2 seat on the commission, meaning Bingham has won the seat.
Neither Bingham nor Painter immediately returned calls seeking comment Aug. 30.
A lifelong resident of Chickasha, Bingham currently serves as the deputy to Grady County Treasurer Robin Burton. She will join the commission on Jan. 2, 2025, and serve a four-year term.
Painter, who has represented District 2 on the commission for eight years, was seeking his third term on the board.
