LAWTON – The Comanche County Fairgrounds Trust Authority, which oversees the fairgrounds, will receive a grant from the county to cover the cost of installing a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system for the annex building.
With little discussion, the Board of Comanche County Commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 16 to approve a $41,000 grant for the HVAC project. Funding will come from the county’s portion of American Rescue Plan Act money.
A federal relief package, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was aimed at helping local governments recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Oklahoma received about $1.87 billion in federal aid under ARPA, and Comanche County’s share of that money amounted to approximately $23.45 million.
Local governments that received ARPA assistance must allocate those dollars by the end of this year, and the money must be spent by Dec. 31, 2026.
