From staff reports Fort Sill Army post is adjusting operating hours for several gates to accommodate construction at Key Gate West and to enhance community safety and security.
Key Gate West, located on Interstate 44, closed at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 for an Automated Vehicle Barrier (AVB) system installation. The project will take “about nine months” to complete, Garrison Commander Col. Derek Baird told the Lawton City Council on Jan. 14.
“These changes to our gate hours are a critical step in improving the security and efficiency of Fort Sill,” Baird said. “While we understand the adjustments may require some flexibility, we are committed to ensuring safe and seamless access for our Soldiers, families, civilians, and community members during the construction period.”
During the construction period, the following gate hours will be in effect:
• Bentley Gate (Sheridan Road): Open 24/7.
• Apache Gate: Open 24/7. Commercial deliveries accepted Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Scott Gate: Hours remain unchanged. Open Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed weekends, holidays, and training holidays.
• 52nd Street Gate: Open Monday through Friday, 5 to 10 a.m. Closed weekends, holidays, and training holidays.
• Key Gate East: Open Monday through Wednesday, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open Thursday (Family Day), 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Open Friday (Graduation Day), 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open Saturday and Sunday, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. during January. Weekend hours will be reassessed after a traffic study. Closed on holidays.
The updates are intended to enhance traffic flow and maintain security while accommodating ongoing construction, Baird said.
