LAWTON – City Attorney John R. Andrew quit abruptly Friday, less than 10 months after he was appointed. No reason for the resignation was announced.
The City Council accepted Andrew’s resignation, effective immediately. He will receive three months of severance pay and a lumpsum payment for any unused vacation leave.
The City Council hired Andrew on April 29, 2024, after an expensive seven-month search for an individual to represent the City of Lawton’s legal interests before judicial and administrative agencies.
The Tulsa native served in the U.S. Army. He attended the University of Tulsa College of Law; after graduation he worked as assistant city attorney in Ponca City before being appointed as their city attorney in 2020.
For the second time in a year, Assistant City Attorney Tim Wilson will serve as Interim City Attorney until that post is filled.
